If you have been on the hunt for a job, it may be tempting to put your search on the back-burner during the mid-year holiday period. I’m sure the last thing you want to think about after finishing all of your exams is going out and putting energy into finding a job. Summer Vacation Programs are a fantastic way to enter the work force. If you are invited to join one, you should consider yourself in a highly promising position. If you didn’t already know, Summer Vacation Programs are temporary programs run by high profile employers during the Christmas vacation period. University students in their 2nd or 3rd year who meet the entry requirements and are a stand out from other applicants are invited to come and work for the company for a certain period of time. As a chosen candidate, you will usually be rotated throughout many different areas of the organization so that you can learn how to undertake a variety of tasks and gain a broad understanding of the company as a whole.
Summer Vacation Programs offer many benefits for chosen students. You will have the opportunity to network with employers from your field, gain valuable work experience, earn a competitive salary on your holiday break and become more confident in your abilities. Upon completion of the vacation program, if the employer feels that you fit into the culture of the company well and satisfied the requirements of the roles you were placed in, it is usually the case that you will be invited to join the next intake of the Graduate Program. After all, why would an employer waste a highly driven and skilled worker? Summer Vacation Programs can be the doorway into guaranteed graduate employment. Imagine having all of the post-graduation job hunt stress out of the way before you even attend the ceremony!
If you are thinking that you may want to apply, it is important to keep up to date with what companies are hiring and when. There is a set criteria that each company has for their candidates. Applying for as many programs as possible without reading what they are looking for is not going to get you very far. It is much better to find companies that suit your abilities and study discipline and only apply for those companies. It is also important to ensure that you tailor each application to suit the company you are applying for.
