Unitemps ‘Find a Job Workshops’ will be taking place over the next month on both Nathan and Gold Coast campuses. Students will learn how Unitemps operates, how to be a successful candidate and how to access other Careers and Employment services. These workshops will also be a chance for students to see the various employment opportunities available to them through signing up with Unitemps.

Recent statistics have shown that each entry level job vacancy advertised in Australia has an average of 20 university graduates competing for the position. In fact, an article published by The Conversation stated that it takes the average Australian graduate approximately 4.7 years after leaving uni to find a full time job. With scary statistics like this, it’s best to start thinking about your future career options well ahead of your graduation date. However, if you were having so much fun living up #studentlife that you forgot about the finding a job part at the end of the road, there are still practices you can put into place post-graduation to demonstrate to employers that you are a stand out candidate.

I am 24, and during my short amount of years, I’ve had a few different jobs. From walking my neighbour’s dogs for an hourly rate of $2 and a bag of lollies, to scooping rice into plastic containers for my local Indian Restaurant, I truly believe there is something to be learnt at every new job you try. Often, as students, it is easy to get caught up in the notion of your ‘dream job’ and to discredit any part time jobs you have before you get there. It’s important to stop and smell the roses on the way. If you have a part time job to make ends meet, take a moment to reflect on what you have learnt in your role and how your job has helped you to develop professionally. Even the most horrible of jobs can teach you things about yourself. Embrace them!

Postgraduate students and PhD candidates can join the Program at any stage of their studies. Get involved in our Online, Brisbane or Gold Coast programs. The best part? You select your mentor from our community of experts, so you know upfront that your match will be directly relevant to your career.
Thomas was in his final year of Bachelor of Business (majoring in Event Management & HR) when he received a targeted email from his head of faculty about the Disney Cultural Exchange Program. While some would dream about working for Disney, sharing a work place with Mickey Mouse and Cinderella, this was not Tom.
