Session 1 – Identifying and Articulating Transferable Skills Employers Want
Tuesday 28th March 12.00pm – 1.30pm
There are many future employment pathways available to HDR candidates outside of academia but knowing how to showcase relevant transferable skills to employers, is vital for success. A transferable skill is a skill you have used in one work context (in this case, pre-HDR and/or during your HDR program), that you can use in a different work context (e.g. in government, at a non-profit, in a corporate setting or consultancy). This session aims to provide strategies to help assist HDR candidates identify and clearly articulate their skills (translating academic experiences using language familiar to employers) for crafting job documents, to illustrate how they are relevant to the future employment they are seeking. The HDR Elevate Series is specifically designed for HDR candidates and offers tailored career development webinars to assist HDR candidates in their career development journey. The series compliments the existing Launch and Elevate suit of career development sessions delivered by the Griffith Careers and Employment Service.

Understanding How to Respond to Selection Criteria

Employers prioritise responses to key selection criteria when vetting candidates for positions. If you don’t address key selection criteria effectively in your application, it is unlikely that you will move beyond the initial screening process. This session aims to guide HDR candidates through the process of addressing key selection criteria, particularly focusing on using the STARL model to demonstrate suitability when applying for a job The HDR Elevate Series is specifically designed for HDR candidates and offers tailored career development webinars to assist HDR candidates in their career development journey. The series compliments the existing Launch and Elevate suit of career development sessions delivered by the Griffith Careers and Employment Service.

Emerging Industry Leaders Information session
Tuesday 18th April 12.00pm – 12.30pm
This session will provide an overview of the program and application information for prospective HDR
candidates. The Emerging Industry Leaders Program is a 2-day professional development program with
an opportunity to network with industry representatives. The program is for HDR (Higher Degree Research)
candidates at any stage of their program at Griffith University and anticipating employment in industry.
The program aims to improve employment outcomes for offer valuable insights on:
• Navigating the transition from academia to industry
• Career development strategies for career acceleration
• Developing an authentic leadership style
• Translating research for impact
• Developing networking skills and building connections
