After two positive mentoring experiences, coupled with entering my final trimester at Griffith University, I decided to take up the role of mentee for the third and final time.
I was fortunate to be paired with Hannah, a Director of Gaming from The Star Entertainment Group. I had a very insightful experience as Hannah’s mentee as she exposed me to the many different business functions within The Star. It was very interesting to learn about the different career options, and I found so many possible careers that I was not aware existed prior to meeting her.
Hannah was kind enough to meet with me on a weekly basis. She shared her own personal experiences as a student and of seeking a graduate role, along with information that she found valuable while building and advancing her own career. Hannah was very active in assisting me with resume and cover letter preparation, using her own resume as an example and taking the time to discuss it in detail. This helped me build a resume that is professional and engaging and presents my education and experience effectively.
We spoke about interviewing techniques, and through one of her contacts, I was given the opportunity to apply for a position as a Mass Gaming Marketing Coordinator at The Star. I was
fortunate to secure an interview for the position and it really helped to practice the skills I’d learned from working with Hannah.
Hannah’s level of professionalism, wisdom and enthusiasm is an inspiration and her mentorship has been outstanding. I have so much more insight into the different areas of marketing and had so many opportunities to grow and reflect on my skills, learning priorities and self-development. Hannah also taught me about work life balance, positive mental health and ensuring that I was connecting with likeminded, passionate and dedicated marketing professionals – lessons that have been so important this year but will stay with me for a long time.

Beyond the Mentorship Program
Through engaging in the Griffith University Industry Mentoring Program, I was able to grow as a future marketing professional, improve my skills and develop important professional relationships. The Program increased my passion and motivation to develop a career within marketing, broadened my perspective about the industry and helped me become a better version of myself. I would like to thank the team behind the Griffith Industry Mentoring Program, Breeda Crowley and Nicole Graham. They work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that students are participating in enriching mentoring experiences. I would highly recommend to other students at Griffith to grab the opportunity to join the Industry Mentoring Program, as it can play a positive role in your career growth and provides students with so many opportunities. I have learned so much from my mentors and I feel excited and confident about entering the workforce and applying the knowledge they have shared with me.
